The Polly Klaas Case Study Lessons Learned

Course Description:

This course is taught by the actual investigator who lived this case for three years from the night of the abduction through the death penalty sentencing.  The course will examine major investigative lessons learned through a detailed case study of the kidnapping and murder of twelve-year-old Polly Hannah Klaas.  Using crime scene photographs, videos, and expert commentary by the lead case agent himself, students will be taken from the night of the abduction to the investigative conclusion, a grueling 24-hour a day major national-interest investigation lasting 65 days.  Learn how patrol officers played a key role in solving this case.  Learn best-practice investigative and interview take-aways that can be used in any case, from patrol officer initial investigations to tenured detective major case investigations.  

The curriculum includes practical applications of the FBI recognized 75 best-practice major case response protocols using a scenario-based exercise, small group exercises, and class presentations.  Students will review basic interview concepts essential during initial responses to any case investigation.  

This is a CA POST Certified professional development course. Attendees successfully completing this course will receive 8 hours of POST CPT credit.

Lunch:

This LUNCH purchase option only applies to courses taught at the LAPPL classroom location in DTLA. All DTLA PDI class days over 4 hours of instruction time will have a lunch break.

There are no lunch spots within walking distance of the training location, DTLA restaurants can take longer than the allotted lunch break time, and parking in DTLA is expensive. Therefore, the LAPPL has arranged for the option of a delivered catered lunch which may be purchased in advance by students. If not purchasing a lunch, students are encouraged to bring their own lunch, as the lunch break is used for networking and professional growth time.
